CAMBUSLANG Rugby Club go into their biggest game of the season this weekend knowing that nothing other than a victory is needed.

Cambus will travel down the Clyde coast to face promotion rivals Helensburgh, knowing that defeat would put a massive dent in their promotion hopes.

After losing 19-21 on the opening day of the season at Coats Park, Cambus know there’s now no room for error as they chase promotion to RBS West League division one.

Captain Pete Callaghan missed the first meeting of the sides through injury, and is still struggling with his shoulder.

He said: “I’m still not sure what’s wrong but if I get through a bit of training and feel okay on Saturday, I hope I’ll be able to take some part in it, but I’ll just see how it goes.

“This is the big one of the season for us, so it’s one I want to be involved in.

“I think most folk are looking fit and we should be able to have a fairly strong team out. Maybe Tom Griffiths might be out, but I’m pretty certain we should mostly have a full team to pick from.

Pete said: “It’s only natural to have a few nerves before a big game like this, but to be honest it’s most of a feeling of excitement.

“We were meant to have a bounce game with East Kilbride on Saturday but that was called off due to the weather. The players had a get-together and we had a good chat.

“We know that this season we’ve got a chance to do something special, something the club hasn’t done for quite a wee while, so there’s definitely some excitement among the boys.

“Helensburgh have had a wee bit of an aura about them this season and that’s been built up, but to be honest they are nothing special.

“Last season they were a mid-table team, but I don’t think the difference is because they’ve improved. This season the quality of the other teams isn’t the same as last year, so I don’t think there’s anything to be afraid of.”

However, the captain believes that his team-mates will be returning to Coats Park with full points.

He said: “I’m confident that we will win it.
